About Michael K. Cao, MD
Dr. Michael Cao is running for Arcadia City Council to bring a new perspective and focus on the safety and security of the community. As an Arcadia resident of fifteen years, Michael has firsthand knowledge of the issues most important to his neighbors.
Michael’s broad professional experience includes serving as a US Air Force Major, team leader of a Critical Care Airlift Team, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC), and owner-operator of a private medical practice. Throughout the last 25 years, he has tirelessly provided healthcare and his volunteer efforts to the local community and to ethnically diverse and underprivileged populations.
Michael engages on a statewide, county, and local level as a California State Commissioner, State Bar; LA County Commissioner, HIV Commission; Arcadia City Commissioner, Senior Citizens; and Arcadia Police Foundation, Director.
Michael’s sense of service and passion to do more motivates him to seek elected office. He will advocate for increased public safety and security, ensure Arcadia’s fiscal responsibility while promoting a healthier community, and expand veteran and senior services. Michael is uniquely qualified to serve our residents as your next Arcadia City Councilmember, and he will be honored to have your vote!
For the last twenty-five years, I am a practicing and licensed Doctor of Medicine in the State of California. The legal and medical fields are similar because they are both highly regulated professions which call for a regulatory process to ensure competency for public protection. Appointed an expert reviewer by the Medical Board of California, I provide expert reviews and opinions for medical board cases, conduct professional competency exams, and support the investigation and enforcement function to uphold physician competency. The State Bar of California Committee of Bar Examiners selected me as a working group member where we reviewed and finalized a new set of rules for accredited law schools designed to update the rules by incorporating best practices and focusing the State Bar’s regulation.
Most proudly, I am a City of Arcadia citizen where I relish serving our residents. Appointed as a Senior Citizen Commissioner by the City Council is a true honor by providing leadership for the coordination of matters relating to senior citizen activities. Actively participating in the numerous senior citizen events allows the opportunity for our city to show respect to the foundation of our city. As a veteran, I was able to bring in Operation Gratitude into Arcadia to express appreciation for the service members who served to protect our nation. The Arcadia Police Foundation is an organization I support as a Director where the foundation functions as a non-profit organization that provides financial support and promotes community and police partnership.
I always have had a long standing commitment to the community and public service. The theme of service to others courses through my diverse professional and life experiences. It is my sense of duty to serve which motives me to seek this appointment. I believe in: upholding the City of Arcadia’s distinguished, professional standards; promoting community success while respecting our history; and advocating for public protection and safety. For these reasons, I believe that I am uniquely qualified to serve on the City of Arcadia City Council.
